This report explores the factors that influence citizens’ transportation choices within cities and examines how rail travel can compete with — and even outperform — cars and airplanes over longer distances. Among many key findings, the study reveals that Spanish public transportation is perceived as by far the most comfortable to use compared to its European counterparts.

Conducted by Savanta ComRes, the study is based on over 11,000 responses from individuals in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, and Spain, as well as selected global cities including Washington D.C., Toronto, London, Paris, Berlin, Copenhagen, and Dubai, in order to better understand public attitudes toward commuting.

In this report, the role played by the concession model in public service provision is analyzed in detail. The most important conclusion is that, despite all concessions' advantages, it is hardly ever used in Spain.
