Business Forum: ‘Challenges of Digital Transformation and Cybersecurity in the Railway Sector’

  This morning, at the premises of IE Tower, a session on the Challenges of Digital Transformation and Cybersecurity in the railway sector took place. The ceremony was inaugurated by Julio Gómez-Pomar, Chairman of the IE Center for Transport Economics & Infrastructure Management, marking the beginning of the session alongside Ángel Contreras, president of Adif and Adif AV. 

Esther Mateo, Adif’s General Director of Security, Processes, and Corporate Systems, presented Adif’s Digital Transformation Plan, emphasizing the critical importance of cybersecurity in its evolutionary process and the need for collaboration among sector stakeholders. 

Following this, a panel moderated by Mateo brought together prominent speakers from the sector. Panelists included Jesús Campo, Adif’s General Director of Business and Commercial Operations; Leopoldo Olea, General Director of Railway Business at Cobra IS; Juan Antonio March, Global Director of Rail and Transit atIndra,  and Ana Romera, Engineering Director at Thales. 

During the discussion, panelists stressed the importance of promoting a comprehensive digital transition that integrates all elements of the sector, from infrastructure to services, aiming to strengthen cybersecurity from its initiation point and foster a corporate culture that prioritizes asset protection. 

Moreover, there was recognition of the need to harness existing talent in the sector and promote the development of specialized skills in cybersecurity and digital technology to successfully tackle future challenges. 

Speakers shared their visions on the path forward to ensure digital excellence and security in the railway sector, emphasizing the importance of maintaining “feet on the ground, but eyes on the future.” The event concluded with a call to action to continue driving innovation and security in the sector.
